Perfect Day Trips from Denver
Having lived in Denver for a few years now, I’m always on the lookout for weekend getaway opportunities. There are so many stunning spots around Denver that are perfect for family outings, combining nature’s beauty and the charm of the city. Let me share a few of my favorites!
1. Red Rocks Park
Every time I mention Red Rocks, my heart fills with excitement. Not only do you get to see the breathtaking red rock formations, but it’s also a great venue for concerts! Admission is free; however, if there are events, ticket prices can range from $30 to $100 depending on the band. I recommend driving about 30 minutes from Denver and enjoying the morning light.
2. Rocky Mountain National Park
If you’re into hiking, Rocky Mountain National Park is a must-visit. It’s about a two-hour drive from Denver. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking! The entrance fee is approximately $30 per vehicle, making it a great family destination. I recommend the Bear Lake hike, which is suitable for various hiking levels.
3. Nicolas Canyon
This is a hidden gem just an hour’s drive from Denver. The clear river in the canyon is perfect for swimming or having a picnic in the summer. Admission is free, but parking is $10. The natural scenery here is ideal for a family road trip.
4. RiNo Art District
If you want to experience the urban culture of Denver, you should visit the RiNo Art District. Here, you can see various street art pieces, and there are plenty of cafes and bars. It’s a convenient trip—just a 30-minute ride on the light rail to get there. I recommend trying some local beers, which cost about $5-$10 a glass.
