Having lived in Delaware for several years, I can share some fantastic family-friendly activities that are perfect for a day out with the kids. You’ll find a mix of fun, learning, and adventure throughout the state!
1. Delaware Aquarium
This is a must-visit, especially for the little ones! Located in Wilmington, the aquarium charges around $25 for admission. Kids are always curious about marine life, and here, they can see turtles, sharks, and even adorable penguins!
I recommend buying tickets online in advance to skip the lines. The educational programs they offer are also fantastic, teaching children about ocean conservation in an engaging way.
2. Fairmount Park
If you're looking for a place where kids can run around, Fairmount Park is an excellent choice. This park boasts expansive green spaces and playgrounds perfect for children to let loose. It's conveniently located in Fairmount, making it easy to drive to. The park has a lovely atmosphere, ideal for a family picnic. I always pack some snacks when we go, enjoying the beautiful outdoors together.
3. Delaware Art Museum
Want to broaden your children's horizons? The Delaware Art Museum is a great spot! Admission is about $10, and kids can fully immerse themselves in interactive exhibits that showcase the beauty of art. The museum frequently hosts special events and workshops, allowing kids to get involved in creative activities, which is super fun.
4. Georgetown Avenue
For a nice meal without traveling far, Georgetown Avenue has plenty of family-friendly restaurants. A personal favorite is Paddle Creek Café, known for its burgers and ice cream, which kids absolutely love. The average cost per person is around $15 to $25. After eating, we usually stroll through nearby shops, where there are lots of little toys perfect for kids.
