Many people in the Bay Area opt for online appointments at the Chinese Consulate located near Grant Ave in Chinatown, San Francisco. Be sure to book your appointment in advance, as this can take one to two weeks.
Step 3: Submitting Your Application
In-Person Submission
When it’s time to submit your application, you can either go directly to the consulate to submit it or send it via mail. Xiao Li chose to submit it in person, and the process was quick and the staff was friendly. Make sure to bring all copies of your documents, just in case.
Step 4: Waiting and Picking Up Your Visa
Processing Time
Generally, visa processing takes 3 to 5 business days. If you need expedited service, that will cost extra, usually around $50.
