Departure location: Flushing to Big Bear Mountain (52.9 miles, 1h30min). Big Bear Mountain is located on the upper reaches of the Hudson River, 45 miles north of New York City. It is named because the outline of the entire mountain looks like a lying bear, so you don't have to worry about black bears everywhere. Visitors can drive directly from the bottom of Bear Mountain to the top, overlooking the Hudson Valley and the northern skyline of Manhattan. Autumn is the best travel season.
