Discovering Louisiana's Chinese Cuisine

Having lived in Louisiana for a few years, I've come to realize that the Chinese food scene here is surprisingly vibrant. Some of these places serve dishes that take me back to my hometown. Here’s a little guide to some of my favorite restaurants where you can taste authentic Chinese flavors.

1. New China Restaurant

Located on Aldrich Street in Baton Rouge, New China Restaurant offers authentic home-style dishes. Their braised pork and fish-flavored eggplant are particularly amazing. Prices range from $10 to $20, making it a great spot for family gatherings. I always see many Chinese families there, and the atmosphere is lively.

2. Little China

If you find yourself in New Orleans, don’t miss Little China. While it’s a small restaurant, their mapo tofu is definitely a showstopper, priced between $8 to $15. Every time I bring friends there, they can't help but order extra. The service is fantastic too, with the owner always chatting warmly with guests.

3. Eastern Delights

Over in Lafayette, Eastern Delights has my favorite Beijing-style fried noodles. The noodles are chewy, and the sauce is flavorful, priced around $12. The environment is perfect for gatherings, and I often see Chinese friends enjoying meals together.

4. Fook Lung Restaurant

Located in Mayfield, Fook Lung Restaurant’s dim sum keeps me coming back for more. Their shrimp dumplings are a must-try! Dim sum is priced between $5 to $10, and you can easily fill up by ordering a few dishes. It’s a wonderful spot for weekend brunch, often buzzing with local Chinese friends.

5. The Rice House

Last but not least, I recommend The Rice House, located on Washington Street. This place offers great value for money. Their chicken fried rice is just $7, and the portions are generous. Whenever I’m in the mood for a quick meal, this is my go-to, convenient and delicious.
